Growth Marketing at Shovels
Shovels is a new company with a small team. As such, we need each person to play an outsized role in our development at these very early stages. From the outset, we’re going to focus heavily on marketing! That’s why this position is among our first hires.
Role
This is a general marketing role. It can grow into whatever you want it to be as we scale, but in the beginning, we need you to do pretty much everything.
Everything?? Yes. Everything.
Here’s where we should start:
- Content marketing: We need Shovels to have an active blog. Fortunately, there’s a million topics around construction data that we can write about.
- Social marketing: We need to get active on LinkedIn, Twitter, Reddit… wherever the construction data nerds are hanging out. We need to find real estate communities, prop tech Discords and Slacks, and get in there and start being helpful.
- Email marketing: We’ve already defined our customer profiles. Now we need to go out and talk to them. Having active blogs and social media posts will help! We can share that content with prospects. There’s a theme here — we’re going to be generous with our data and insights.
- Search marketing: As we go, we’ll want to be strategic about keywords. I’m sure there are some high-value long-tail phrases that have very little competition and are up for grabs. We need to find those and then go after them with paid and organic search strategies.
So… four roles in one!
Expectations
This is a lot, we get it, and we don’t expect all of it to be done at the same time or even in the same month. We’ll map out a strategy that makes sense given the business needs and our collective set of skills. I (Ryan, the CEO) will work with you very closely on all of it!
So our expectations as a company are the same for you as for everyone else:
- Work hard, work smart, and don’t get overwhelmed
- Bring creativity to the forefront
- Finish strong; bring your projects to completion
- Be organized. We have a great system in Notion for this!
- Be reasonable — with yourself and with the team
- Write well. This is a personal peeve.
It will be very difficult for me to hire a poor writer. Sorry, I can’t deal with bad writing.
